Features:
If you are a "hardware" sort of person, you'll appreciate the extent of details we "sweat" around here, like our custom-built high end crossover at right. So, even if it's a detail the customer never sees, we impart quality, durability and performance wherever and whenever it's possible, and could benefit the customer. You. In the end, how such things add up are what counts; sonic clarity, power and years of trouble-free use are a promise from SVS.
Magnetic Grill
The unexpected MTS-01 grill is something rarely seen at any price. The often neglected aspect of how your speaker grills are affixed, shows just how well crafted and designed our newest offerings really are. This sort of feature on the MTS-01 tower, the MCS-01 center and MBS-01 bookshelf speakers are a whole different level of cool than you have come to expect from "regular" speakers.
Exhibit A: The hidden magnetic retention system.
Two shots needed to show this. Or rather, show what you won't see. The rigid and sculpted black fabric covered grill at left appears as it would normally be installed. But glance below right, with the grill removed. No visible means of holding the grill on at all. Gone are the "cups" or other unsightly retainers you nearly always see. The "secret" is h idden "neo" magnets machined precisely into the grill back, residing under a disk of pliable synthetic rubber. Matching exactly to the speaker are reverse polarity parts, embedded just under the light textured black front baffle surface. Invisible. Nothing plastic to mar the beautiful face of your SVS speaker. Nothing to break, loosen, or buzz.
What's better, there's no fragile and annoying little "ball and socket" fitting other speakers need. You won't have to wrestle with aligning those conventional fasteners, much less the hassle of trying to press your grill into place. Just set your SVS grill near the front of its matching speaker, and with a seemingly magical "thunk" it'll firmly snug into position on its own, and stays there. Comes off just as easy.
Even jaded golden-ear audiophiles will bust a grin when they discover something this effective and elegant. Pioneered on our small SB12-Plus subwoofer and now integrated into our PB13-Ultra too, this is the sort of grill other brands will use some day. Or not. Not many OEMs pour on innovative features like this, not at prices you can actually afford anyway.
ScanSpeak "AirCirc" neodymium tweeter, custom Peerless 6.5" woofers

Parts are not just “parts” at SVS: Every manufacturer, of course, tends to laud their own choices in design and components. But we really go the extra mile for our customers. Example? Our tweeter, from esteemed Danish audio supplier ScanSpeak, is but one instance of our "over the top" approach to creating great speakers. Frankly, we couldn't have designed a better tweeter ourselves, so we didn't. And some influential enthusiasts would probably agree it was the right move (and understandably, are praising this as one of the finest in the world, at any cost).
Fact is, despite tweeters being among the most critical components in any speaker, even in this somewhat pricey “price class”, you will see competitive products using the sort of tweeter you could buy yourself for $25, or less. Super-duper-cost-no-object speakers? A brand might ratchet things up with one of the better mainstream models (which truth be told, are often very respectable performers), for say, $30-50 or so. Really, a $40 tweeter is quite an investment for any top-tier OEM.
So, the tweeter in the MTS-01 speaker family, shown here? Well, if you can even find one (sorry, we bought the entire first production run available to the US) ... expect to pay well over $200. That's just a bare tweeter of course. It's a component that's nothing short of astounding, and once we put it through extensive trials, we realized we had to have them in this new product line. You might wonder then: In what other speakers might you find such an insanely high-priced component? Relatively few for what might be obvious reasons then (and it'd be impolite to draw comparisons in any case). Just too expensive. Suffice it to say then, there's no shortage of speakers many times the price of the MTS-01's, using tweeters not half as good . So, long-time SVS watchers know we’re doing what we do best with the MTS-01. Raising the bar on the entire industry. Making ScanSpeak's AirCirc “cost-no-object” performance available… at a reasonable cost.
Some will surmise that somehow then, something must have been left out, or seriously compromised, somewhere. But that's not how we do things at SVS. One weak link and you can ruin an entire speaker, high-zoot tweeter and all. So after rounds of testing we selected a fantastic Peerless brand 6.5" woofer replete with Nomex® cone, cast aluminum basket and synthetic rubber surround, the perfect counterpart to the other stellar parts. Other folks will wonder if all this attention to high-tech, high-end parts really make a difference. Really, can you "hear" quality components such as these? We think so. Besides, quality this "excessive" means your speakers will sound as good years down the road, as they do today.
Contoured, rigid, and "seamless" braced cabinets
It's tough to come up with a "look" which not only blends into a variety of home media rooms, theaters, studios, all over the world, yet doesn't scream "me too" either. The speaker industry is practically polluted with simplistic box designs, or others slathered with layers of plastic bezels, trim pieces, screws, fascia, and badges to "gussy things up". Enough, we say. Beauty can be simple, with clean lines and a minimum of "add ons". And no design will work well if it can't stand up to tough customer use too.
The three members of the MTS-01 family echo the elegant understated styling of the SBS-01 lines, but up the ante in all regards too (as their higher prices would dictate). Every edge and seam is determined by highly precise computer numerical control (CNC) cutting machines, all controlled by equally precise computer assisted design (CAD) drawings. This care is evident in each recess, threaded insert, seam and hole. Every speaker is final assembled in the US. Not every brand can say that. Actually, very few these days.
Of course the gentle and unique contours outside are obvious, what's inside is less so. Extensive "blocking" strengthens these cabinets still further, as do stout and precise "CNC" cut braces. We even rejected the less costly and less rigid industry practice of "comb cutting" the distinctive top arch on your cabinets (both sides, on the MCS-01). That build technique puts numerous deep grooves in fiberboard panels (leaving a "comb" like surface) which is then filled in with glue and "bent" into place. While inexpensive, such a process was deemed insufficient for these SVS speakers. Instead, we laminate multiple thin but solid sheets of MDF and form press them into place, for enhanced strength and quality.
You can't readily see every aspect of how we make your speakers better, but we expect many customers appreciate knowing we "overbuild" products like these, as a rule.
Custom sound contouring
Every room is different, and while the new MTS-01 family speakers are tuned to be exceptionally accurate and neutral at all power levels, customized control over their sound was built in by our engineers. So you control their final sound, not us. And these controls as easy to use, if you choose, as they are appreciated by those who want to "tweak" their sonic results in detail.
First are custom foam port plugs, included with each of these speakers (two for each MCS and MTS-01 speaker, one each for the MBS-01). This simple arrangement allows you to switch quickly between greater depth and efficiency of a ported speaker, or a "sealed" mode with subtle effects on bass response. Squeeze and insert, or remove without any tools. Our famously easy to read owners manuals walk you though setup like a pro, regardless if these are your first, or last set speakers.
On the other end of the audio spectrum, the high frequencies, we provide a neatly integrated two-position switch inside the binding-post "cup" which selects a natural "flat" or a slightly attenuated tweeter profile. Use this control in rooms where your speakers might be closer to side walls than is ideal, or sound is otherwise more "bright" than you prefer, regardless of the reason. No matter the exact parameters of your room or listening style then, such tools stand ready in every MBS-01, MCS-01 and MTS-01 speaker.
Last but not least is the ubiquitous "dual" binding post configuration, all but expected on the best speakers today. While not always implemented as they should be in the audio industry, SVS has carefully implemented this feature so customers with "bi-amp" systems (one amplifier for woofers and another for tweeters) can properly exploit their high-end equipment. Typical systems will leave the standard gold plated "bus bar" connectors in place and make for easy hookup using bare wire, single "banana plugs" or spade ends. Heavy-duty, gold-plated knurled parts will stand up to any use and abuse you might dish out.
Multiple installation modes
It might be clear from the above we've expended lots of time and effort to ensure a bevy of top-flight components, all built up in a cabinet that's as robustly designed as it is attractive. But they have to fit in your room too, and allow practical aspects of floor placement, use with stands, brackets, or configuration into walls or furniture you might have built specially for your system.
Each of these speakers has a unique set off features that make placement in your room a snap, even given their large size and heavy construction.
With each MTS-01 tower speaker, at no additional cost, comes a set of matching tempered steel floor bars which can be affixed to the bottom of your cabinet, for substantially more lateral support on carpeted or even hard surfaces. Custom gold-plated cone feet provide leveling and firm contact through any padding under your carpet. Rubber bottomed machined coin-sized "receivers" seen above can be used to release your inner audiophile desires with these, even on hard floors. Or you can instead use included low-profile high-density foam disks on the supports in lieu of the "spikes". Should you not require the supports, you can even thread the gold feet directly into the MTS-01 cabinet itself. Simple, strong, elegant and flexible.
Big center speakers can often be a chore to integrate into your room, but at SVS big is always beautiful, and made practical in the larger spaces they will see. The MCS-01 provides three easy ways to place yours. Included high-density foam disks can be used to isolate your speaker from a shelf or wall-unit, and can readily be optimized for dedicated center channel stands.
Or, you an take advantage of heavy-duty threaded inserts flanking the binding post cup. Note, two optional brackets are needed to provide support for this speaker's nearly 40lbs of heft.
The MBS-01 bookshelf speaker was intended from the outset to act as either compact main (Left and Right channel) speaker, or as robustly-sized surrounds. Since these speakers will often see use with actual "bookshelves" within your home, we include four special removable soft rubber threaded cone feet for each. Flat, high density EVA foam disks are included where use with speaker stands might dictate a lower-profile bottom surface. A single set of threaded inserts on the back allow use with high-grade heavy-duty wall or ceiling brackets too.
