SB12-NSD

For the money, an ok sub. Not a sub that will crack your drywall. Not bad, not super great. Nice aesthetics, features, and build quality. Overall, I would rate it a C+ or B-. For the money, A-. I think you could get a comparable sub for the money from HSU or maybe Outlaw JMHO. :-) Nice enough to keep. Thx

Powerful, but somewhat harsh sounding

I purchased dual SB12-NSD's on the Black Friday special (1 week before Black Friday) to use in my basement theater (18x18x8). I figured two of them would be great. After a few days of continuous listening to music and watching a few movies, I was not really impressed. The bass was quick and punchy as you’d expect from a sealed box, but there was little extension to lower frequencies. I didn’t get the feeling of being punched in the chest like I was looking for. If I had to describe their performance, it was more like a hard vibration than it was smooth and detailed. On Cyber Monday I got a steal on two SB13 Ultra’s and was blown away by their performance. Sure, even on their sale they were 2.5 times the price of the SB12-NSD’s, but I was tired of trying different subwoofers…so I decided to just put my money where my mouth was and go for one of the best. I listen to a lot of music, but still wanted a subwoofer to perform extremely well for movies. I initially had one SB13 Ultra set up in the front of the room, to the left of my right main speaker. The performance was incredible and surprisingly balanced, so the 2nd subwoofer really balanced out the bass in the room. After running Audyssey on my Denon receiver, the volume on the subwoofers were pretty low. The receiver set them to -12dB when leveled out. Read the instructions from SVS…increase the subwoofer level output on the receiver before you increase the volume level on the actual subwoofer. The bass will be much more detailed and smooth. I mentioned the SB12-NSD’s were a bit hard sounding, while these are very smooth and have much better low end extension. You feel these in your chest. The SB12-NSD’s rattled the walls and everything in the room from the vibration, while these rattle much less as they deliver much more smooth bass. I’m sure the new SB-4000’s are even better…so don’t hesitate to buy the SB13 Ultra if you can still find them, or the newer SB-4000. To answer one of the most asked questions…would you be better off getting two SB12-NSDs or one SB13-Ultra…without a doubt, the single SB13 Ultra will outperform the SB12-NSDs. The SB12-NSDs have high output and will rattle your house, but it isn’t just about power…the quality of the bass is a huge difference. I had one SB13 Ultra arrive with a dented grill, so I contacted SVS and they sent a replacement to me the next day, no questions asked. Incredible customer service to support their excellent products.

Not a bad little sub

The build quality is top-notch. The appearance is very nice. They are unobtrusive, and attractive with the wood-grained vinyl. They play very clean and tight, which is what I expected from SVS. Even at high volume levels they sound very good with no discernible distortion. The only nit I have to pick is that, even with two of them, I'm not getting that wall-rattling power that I was expecting. With the gain knob centered, even when I turn my receiver volume up to -12 dB I get some nice resonance in my ottoman, and little bit of an audible shake from my windows, but I was just expecting more. That said, they do sound very good, and will play very clean at high volume, so. . . Nice little sub. I'm just wondering if I shouldn't send them back and try a single larger, or maybe a ported sub.

SB12-NSD.

I don't know if is me doing something wrong. The reason I purchased was the outstanding reviews to replace my 12 inches sub from Aperion Audio. I did see much boom from your subwoofer. Aperion was a much better. Boom. I guess now I'm stuck. Sorry. Now I'm hesitate to purchase the complete set SVS Ultra Tower????? Thanks,
