I HATE my new PB12-NSD!!!

1.) It produces cleaner and louder bass than my $1500 Infinity Cascade 15 subwoofer
2.) For to price of my Cascade 15, I could have bought TWO PB12-NSDs
3.) The PB12-NSD sounds so good that now I feel like I HAVE to buy another one
4.) What am I going to do with a used Cascade 15 subwoofer???

This is why I HATE my new PB12-NSD. It makes me regret that I ever got the Infinity Cascade 15.

I received this sub about a month ago to replace an old worn out Velodyne sub. This sub kicks ass!! I set the settings from the setup sheet and adjusted by NAD per-pro sub settings and everything sounds just great. I am very pleased with my purchase, and would recommend to anybody looking for a good quality sub....look no further than SVS!!! Excellent build quality!!

First off, this is my first subwoofer I have ever purchased and let me say, I couldn't have picked a better company to provide me with such quality! I think the best part of this sub was not the look, the built, the size or even the fantastic bass it unleashes, the best part of this subwoofer which brought smiles across my face was waking up my roommate at 2am asking me if there was a severe thunderstorm outside! Overall, I couldn't be more glad with my purchase and will definitely consider SVS in the future.

Well I purchased this sub about 2months ago and I can honestly say...job well done! It will probably do you the best if u have an auto set-up receiver or if u set it around 70 or 80 hz depending on the size and output of your other speakers. After speaking with svs they told me to turn the frequency knob to the disable postion. I have always controlled the hz myself and acheived good sound, but this time svs told me to let my auto set-up control the sub and wow!!! I'm n love!!!! This baby is rated at 18hz on the low side...well SVS lied! This baby will reproduce notes down to about 14hz. Who knows, maybe even lower. This sub is really fast and accurate and deeeep. I now listen to cds I haven't played in years. This sub is very very musical. It made my JBL L8400P 12inch hide behind my recliner. After try n to ues them both the JBL only got n the way...REALLY! No comparison at all and the JBL costed more. SVS is where it's at! I've also owned JL audio products for my car and my svs sub sounds like I'm back n my car again. Thanx SVS!!!!

Well, I decided to upgrade my single klipsch RW-12d with two PB12-NSD's. All I can say is WOW!!!! They sound amazing.
You can't go wrong with this sub.

Note the 4 star rating versus the 5 given by everyone else. This is a lengthy review but I wanted to explain why I gave the NSDs 4 stars instead of 5. If you aren't interested in the details, you can just skip to the last 2 paragraphs for the gist of this review.
I've got a 3600 cu ft room where one side partially opens into the rest of the house. Carpet over concrete slab. Difficult room to pressurize. My critical listening is 90% movies. Quality, but not high end, speakers and receiver. Volume can get quite loud-near reference level.
I was looking to replace a 2001(?) 12" Velodyne that was distorting as I pushed it too hard trying to fill the space with the higher demands of Bluray and its enhanced, lossless audio. Besides distorting, the Velodyne's output below 30 hz, while there, was dropping off too quickly for today's soundtracks.

Spoke with Jack and Eli who both thought a 12 Plus would be the answer. I have always liked the benefits of multiple subs, and when I broached the idea of dual NSDs at roughly the same price they both preferred that idea. That's the route I went.
They went into the front corners of my large room where I know dual subs provide pretty smooth response throughout the room. I integrated them into my system but wasn't happy with the results and didn't think they lived up to the hype. I saw 2 main problems.
First, though they covered the ultra-low bass below 30 hz, they weren't hitting with the impact I was expecting. After speaking with Ed at SVS re the design of the subs limiter (much of which went way over my head) I was convinced these subs are pretty bulletproof. I admit that when listening to movies I prefer a sound where the low end is boosted above truly balanced levels. I increased the LFE output by 6-7 dbs and achieved the desired results in pressurizing the room with with visceral, feel-in- the-chest, shake- the-furniture type of low end I was looking for.
The second disappointment I encountered in my initial setup was what I perceived to be a weak response in the low-upper bass of roughly 40-60hz. I came to realize that this is simply a reflection of SVS goal to produce subs with extremely flat frequency responses.Many might say that flat frequency responses in a sub might not be as ideal as they are throughout the midrange and treble. Most subs have a small but significant boost in the 40-60 hz range. This provides a "presence" or "heft" to both music and, especially, the critical low-bass range in films. The flat response designed and achieved by SVS is more accurate and truer overall, but I guess I'll never be accused of being a purist because I prefer that boosted presence in the 40-60 hz range. I solved that by integrating the Velodyne into my system at a slightly lower-than-balanced gain, thus allowing the Velodyne to provide a bit of 40-60hz boost while not interfering with the otherwise excellent performance of the NSDs.
Sorry for the long review. In conclusion, the PB 12 NSDs are excellent subs, especially at their price range. Don't think any one else can compete at that price. They hit hard and low without sounding "one-note-ish" at all. They have excellent engineering and build quality. They can be pushed hard without producing bad sounds or damaging the unit. (I run them hard-tickling the limiter but not allowing the limiter to remain lit. Considering this, I probably should have gone with two Pluses but there was a price difference to consider.) I am very happy with their performance and probably should have given them a 5 star rating. The only reason I didn't is my personal preference for a bit more presence in the 40-60 hz response. The only other problem I have is that one of the subs, when pushed hard, will vibrate the top half of the metal grill loose from its grommets/eyeholes.

And I agree with all the other reviews in that, after speaking with Ed, Eli, and Jack, I've found that the guys down there are great to work with. They really seem to care about their customers.

I have been a proud pb10 owner since 2005. All these yeas been so happy. Recently I wanted to upgrade, then decided instead of getting a plus or ultra I may as well get pb12 nsd to add to my pb10. Everyone from jack and Ed agreed and I couldn't be happier. Getting both set up was a cinch. Now it's beyond words the power i have. Svs makes some of the best subs in world and I will never buy from anyone else. I feel confident these subs are bulletproof. Highly recommended.

I've had the PB12-NSD for a few weeks now. I've heard sounds I didn't know existed. This is a GREAT sub at a good price!

In a 3000 cu ft space (cement floor, masonry walls, and a tall metal ceiling) with a 5.1 system, I tried a 10" Klipsch (very disappointing, muddy sound, terrible for music, barely ok for movies), then upgraded to a 12" Velodyne (decent, if not great, for most music BUT very weak bottom end that was poor for movies), then bought the SVS. Seriously, it's not even fair to compare it to the previous subs. Tight, clear, musical-sounding low end with enough punch to feel all the LFE's my blu-rays can deliver. But what really got me was the music capabilities, as I use my system 90% of the time for music. Clear, detailed lows without any noticeable distortion at high volumes. Handles techno, metal, hip hop, and every DJ I can throw at it with ease. It pushes out loud, deep bass seemingly without effort. I've gone as loud as I dare go on a 140 WPC bi-amped system (>400W dynamic) and it keeps up with the towers easily. I'm pretty sure I would blow my main towers long before the SVS would break a sweat. In short, perfect sub for my system, space, and musical taste! I rarely ever submit online reviews of anything but this product deserves a novel. Great tips on the website on integrating the sub as well. THANK YOU SVS!

Superb quality and lives up to all the reviews as one of the best sounding subs for the price. This sub easily surpasses more expensive subs that may look better but lack performance. I compared with a DEF Super cube I and SVS is cleaner sounding and more low end punch. The only item I don't care for is the metal grill. Although very rugged, I would prefer a cloth grille that fit more flush to the cabinet. Maybe SVS could offer an optional grille for their subs. Overall, an exceptional product.

Bigger than I expected. (should have paid closer attention to the dimension) But it is simply awesome! Glad I got the one a step up!

The PB12 sub is just amazing! I'm another huge fan of SVS! After so many years of missing out on the action in my movies, I am finally a happy camper.

My old Klipsh sub (and the new one I returned) are no match for this sub. The price is great and the quality is superb!

Very satisfied after purchasing one of their 'cosmetic flaw' units. Arrived without a scratch or any discoloration.

I replaced a sealed James Loudspeaker Cinema 15, a very nice sub in its own right, with the PB12-NSD and there's no comparison. The PB12 integrates extremely well with my 5.1 system for home theater and I've never enjoyed my music collection quite like this before.

Could not be more happy with this choice. Committed SVS buyer for life.

In a word...... Amazing! The difference between my old 12" Klipsch Sub 12 and my new PB12 is night and day. My music has come alive in ways I didn't think were possible and my movies have a level of bass I didn't know I was missing. This things hits hard and accurate. Highly recommended.

Just recently received dual pb12-nsd and couldn't be more happy. They hit hard and clean and look beautiful with the metal grills. Was not sure about the charcoal look to match with my rc70's ash wood veneer but they look great (as if that really matters since it's all about their awesome sound).

It's more of a mate black they the light gray that they look like in the photo gallery. With both movies, games and music they sound phenomenal and I'm hearing things that I never heard before with my old setup. In music I'm hearing more of the bass lines in certain songs as well drum beats. For games/movies I'm just hearing some incredible low end that rattle (as others have noted) my entire room lol.

I was throwing around the idea of dual plus's or one ultra but was told by that the plus and ultra subs although nice are way overkill for my needs and by having duals vs one ultra I would have more than enough overhead and save a bit of coin. I couldn't be happier with the setup they recommend. I am a huge believer in multiple subs as are they and they did not try to over sell me which brings me to my next note.

SVS as a whole is a great company to deal with with a very knowledgeable staff. They will never try to oversell and just want to give you the best sound for the best price.

After using a 10" REL made in 1998 (great for two-channel, but not designed for HT), I didn't know what to expect from the SVS. Would it overwhelm my speakers and obliterate my music?

Well, I was very pleasantly surprised. The sub is extremely musical and integrates perfectly with my ACI Sapphire monitors. With music, it adds a layer of firmness and solidity that was not there before. Instead of mindless thumping, I can actually recognize bass instruments playing. For movies, after calibrating with Audyssey, I hear LFE and bass information from the surround channels that I've not heard before. Bass-heavy explosions and other effects are substantial, but they don't grate on my nerves like they did before (which may have been due to my old sub clipping). Once I finish my 2700 cubic foot room, I eventually will look to get a second PB12-NSD to round out the bass in the room.

Aweome sound for movies music is still good but doesnt have the punch i was expecting. Still very awesome product. The customer service is outstanding. once the boss (woman) saw how big it was it had to go. I now have SB12 and it sounds great. These are truely awesome subs. Once i get the settings right on my reciever it will be even better. Highly recommended for sure.

Astonishing performance for your dollar! Once you calibrate this sub with your receiver and speakers properly, prepare yourself to be elevated to a whole new level of bass nirvana. I read all the reviews for SVS's products and I heard all the positive talk on message boards, so I knew that this sub would be good.

The thing I didn't realize was just how "good". Every bluray I drop into my system reveals a level of detail, refined bass, and with incredibly clean output that just leaves me smiling, breathless. Its not just the deepness of the bass that hits you, its how the bass is articulated and the level of sheer power that this sub flexes as it works. This is audiophile quality bass at its best!

I've owned a lot of subs before, Sony, Energy, Onkyo, HSU. While my HSU STF-2 was decent, it handily fails at reaching the kind of power and dynamics of my PB12. My PB12 creates the kind of expressive sub dynamics that really punctuate my movie going experience at home and I even like how the sub looks, a first for me.

Prior to I had considered getting another HSU sub, but after much thought and consideration, I decided that I don't want just another sub that can thump, I want a sub that can deliver a whole new experience. I absolutely received that new experience with my PB12. I am so glad that I didn't go with HSU's ugly characterless sub boxes and paper woofers.

I like that SVS has a sense of style and pride in the craftsmanship of their products and that they strive to create products that go above and beyond what other manufacturers do.

SVS has got my attention and in the best possible way by taking me one step closer to audio perfection in my home theater experience. I will absolutely consider SVS first when it comes time for future upgrades.

Two big thumbs up!

I wanted to let my newest subwoofer get a fair amount of time to work itself out. I have now owned my PB12-NSD for almost two months. I have owned several subwoofers for over 16 years in both automobile and home. From store bought JL's and Kickers to ID to DIY. I have owned all sizes, all enclosure types and many high end amps.
With that said, this "entry level" sub from SVS is a homerun. I am unable to pull a bad noise from it all the way up to reference. It is a solid little beast. I can imagine how an improved 13" driver with 3x the power in 2x the internal volume would just "rumble, young man rumble!"
Gain is set to ~9 o'clock run through my Denon AVR's Audyssey Multi EQ...leaving me all the headroom I could want in my ~2700 cu ft sealed and rectangular space. With in-room gain I am getting some heady numbers for a solo 12"!!

Ok SVS, I know you guys read these so please consider my last statement....release a $999 shipped sub, with say the last versions' PB12+ performance, and you will be back logged on that subwoofer for a year! (I'd buy one the day I could)

I was very skeptical about dropping what I consider to be a large amount of money on a subwoofer. When the box arrived, WOW big is all I can say. I had very high hopes. I plugged it in and watched finding nemo, waiting for all the scenes with low tones. I was blown away by the shake but the sub itself seemed muddled and boomy while rattling my house. I put in some music and was very dissappointed in the performance, no nice solid beats and fell flat often while the little red light on the back just seemed to glow and not flicker at all.
I was ready to send this thing back feeling like I had been swindled but with all the great reviews on audio based forums I figured the setup must be lacking.
I then spent the next 2 days really trying to get this thing tuned properly to my system using music and the helicopter scene from The Incredible Hulk.
It was nerve racking and my wife was almost getting angry as I would move the sub or tweak the parametric EQ on my amp for the millionth time. But in the end it was all worth it.
Once this sub was matched to my system a huge smile crossed my face probably to the point of concealing my chin. I was astonished! The sub was tight, mostly hidden from sound, all traces of boominess gone, all that was left was and ungodly rumble. The chaingun from the park scene hit you in the ribs with no distinct giveaway as to where is was located in the room. Music is fantastic every kick drum and bass guitar riff flows through it without strain. I even sampled a little Techmaster PEB through it, long revered by my brother and myself as the toughest test a subwoofer can face, as well as being able to tell if the sub can perform at the sub 20hz mark. The little red light did flicker during this test but the extention was perfect deep tight and hard hitting.
Even the wife was pleased with the final results!
I am sorry this review is so long but I needed to explain my whole experience so that others might pause before returning such a great sub. Entry level as it is, could be tested against many "high-end" subs and blow them away. I truly wish I could have purchased up the line but for now this will suffice. My next sub purchase will be from SVS so please stay as true as you are today!!!!

Great sound and a good deal is a nice starting point for SVS, but their service is incredible. My original post reflected an under-performing PB12-NSD. SVS posted my review without corrections and contacted me. They diagnosed the issue over the phone and replaced the woofer at no cost. Ed and Eli worked with me over the phone and via email throughout the process. Now, I have a great sounding woofer to match the SVS tower and bookshelf speakers. This is a friendly, efficient group that I recommend to my friends and family.

This sub is everything I read that it would be and more. By more, I mean this is big beast size-wise. If I had realized how many cubic feet this sub occupies, I probably would not have bought it. That said, I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I had a Velodyne for a short while, and I looked at the REL series 5, 7, and 9. This PB 12-NSD does not have the polished beauty on the outside, but it sits in a corner, and is "HEARD not seen." I use it mostly for my home theater system and it scored many smiles from the couples who recently joined us to see Avatar. The gals voiced concern for the windows while the guys grinned their approval. I did not have the sub turned up very high and the room it rattles is 30x15 feet. My wife is thoroughly opposed to the boomy subs she hears from the hyped-up sound systems in the cars downtown, but she approves of this sophisticated though not so gentle giant. I will certainly consider other SVS offerings.

The PB12-NSD is a great sub. I was tired of subs that were blowing up or sound too boomy. I compared specs out there and these were the best specs for the price. I bought two of these and have one on each side of my entertainment center. Movies are incredible shaking the sofa, your body, and practically the whole house. The sound is phenomenal and those very low Hz are incredible to feel. I highly recommend them for movies and music. You won't be disappointed.

WOW! That was my first impression as I cycled through the BluRay collection. My previous sub was the Klipsch rw-12d and it served me well but was definately boomy. Inception and Super 8 were to be blamed (praised) for the upgrade. When the wife would look at me and ask "what was that? How much have you spent on the sound?" The PB12-NSD passed every test I threw at it last night with clean, clear, and tight bass. This is my first real sub and I could not be happier with my purchase. Thank you SVS for a wonderful product.

I originally gave SVS a bad review for not responding to my customer service requests for several years. After I wrote the review, they got in touch and fixed the problem. Better late than never, I guess. I've upped the review to four stars, because both the sub and the speakers are awesome, and comfortably the best sound quality in that price range.

Simply awesome. Incredible value for such a great sub. I picked up the older revision of the PB12-NSD May of 2009. The rev I have is just spectacular in my home theater and it still isn't as good as this new one! It doesn't have the DSP. It's set up in a 500 sq. ft. room with ~4000 cu. ft. of volume with a 7 channel Axiom speaker system. It will rock the room. Literally. It produces clean tight bass that will shake things around. Even my wife says that watching movies at home are better than any theater. Tip: I've got it sitting on a Aurelex Gramma. This is a bass isolation pad. Get one. Well worth it. Reduces the contact vibrations. My floor is carpeted with a 10 lb. underpadding plus the Gramma. The bass still pulses the room and it's CLEAN. SVS makes great products. Wish more audio gear had this value/performance ratio.

I have the new PB12 and it is great. A very balanced sub and very competent with music and movies. Plays accurate, detailed, smooth and hard hitting bass. I recommend playing with the placement to get the results you want. I went with SVS due to the quality of the driver and the flat clean response you can achieve with any material. This is a far cry from an entry level sub woofer and fills my 12 by 25 room with no problems. Thanks very much.

We bought The PB12-NSD DSP model. This sub (aka THE SLEDGE) is the backbone of what makes our sound stage sound so realistic. I can't say enough about how good this speaker and company are. ex. SVS promptly sent us a new 5 meter audio interconnect cord when I contacted them with problems with the first breaking.

I never realized what I was missing until I added this sub to my home theater. My only disappointment is not having done so sooner. One word...Wow!

I invited a friend over shortly after adding the subwoofer. Only a few minutes into the movie the look on his face was priceless. He looked at me and said "What was that!" and "This is like being in the theater." I couldn't have been happier. This went on throughout the entire movie. I then showed him the subwoofer tucked inconspicuously beside the couch and just smiled.

It made everything worth while. I've never watched so many movies in the short time since I purchased the sub. I just can't get enough.

I own the version with the 325 Watt RMS Bash Amplifier and did lot of comparing with others and this was by far the best sub within my price range and sometimes better than those worth more. Love it wish I could afford the plus.

The PB12-NSD is my favorite purchase of the last two years. In this world of advertising hyperbole, it's increasingly rare that a product is everything advertised. I love the plug-and-play simplicity, quality, value, and pure fun of the PB12-NSD for music, TV, and movies.

This is truly a world-class subwoofer, representing the high-standard tradition of American design and manufacturing. I hope that SVS continues to thrive and create great products for us to appreciate and enjoy!

I purchased the PB12-NSD in October 2008 because my Wharfedale speakers did not go down low enough to reveal the low pedal notes of the organ, frequencies below 40Hz were lacking. Also, I wanted to add the LFE channel for a complete 5.1 surround sound for my 5.1 SACDs. The first recording I tried was from the Reference Recording label was "EXOTIC DANCES FROM THE OPERA". It was very good but only a slight improvement of my regular speakers, because that recording really didn’t have the low frequencies to test the SVS subwoofer. Then I tried the Reference Recording’s, "CROWN IMPERIAL". The first track is Strauss's "Festival Intrada". The last minute of the piece has several 16Hz pedal notes. That's the first time I've ever felt a 16Hz pedal note before and it literally shook my listening lounge chair like an earthquake and scared the S%&T out of me!!!!!!! Now I’m addicted to my SVS Sub. I then tried a Chandos organ SACD "Grandes Pieces Symphoniques", the quite low pedal notes came through beautifully like rich deep chocolate, as if I was really in church. The PB12-NSD has been working flawlessly, so they are very reliable too, which is very important to me. Now I’m thinking of saving up for the PC12-Plus to save some floor space.

I built my own home theater and selected all the equipment after doing extensive on-line research. The SVS PB12-NSD was a clear standout and ended up as a single sub in a 13.5' x 24' home theater. I couldn't be happier. The clear distinct base, when base is actually there, the vibration felt as well as heard, and the dead quiet when there is no sound, makes this a no-brainer selection for anyone wanting to have quality base at a reasonable price. There are a lot more expensive subs out there, but I'd stack my SVS up against any of them.

Wow! After reviewing my options, and reading reviews from the audio community, I went with the SVS PB12-NSD sub. This sub will let you feel the explosions. When the earth shakes in the movie you are watching, your living room will follow along. Crystal clear accurate sound. Literal wall shaking bass.

I recommend this sub to anyone who is looking to upgrade their home theater system.

I have the now obsolete SVS 10" entry-level sub. Similar to this, but smaller driver. It has been amazing. It shakes the room with effects (LFE). It is so natural and non-boomy on critical classical music when equalized. I'm convinced that it was the best value in subs available. It's a large box, but that's what gives it the "expensive" sound at a low price. I continue to recommend SVS subwoofers for highest performance regardless of budget.

I put a lot of research into the purchase of my PB12-NSD and I feel very confident that I made the right purchase. This sub is working with a pair of Definitive BP2004TL speakers that I thought had great low bass performance. After hooking up my SVS there is no comparison in tightness, depth and quality of bass. This little monster is outperforming both powered 10" woofers in the Definitives with ease. This sub has really made listening to music fun again. It has brought movies to another level of impact and enjoyment for my wife and myself. My cats are not enjoying the sub at all but they will have to deal with it because this thing is not going anywhere.

If this is the level of performance offered by an entry level product from SVS I am scared to hear their other more expensive products.

While researching about 6 different subs for my music and H/T I kept returning to the SVS website. The cylinder subs caught my eye. I called SVS and told them my room size and they said that my very best choice would be the PB12-12NSD. I also read that setup for a sub is easier if you have 2 and they confirmed that. So I bought 2 PB-12NSD's. My hopes for my H/T and music audio needs were completely met. I will not go into detail about the separates and other speakers I have but let me say that they are excellant. I have a very well thought out system. And importantly my wife is very satisfied with our choice. SVS has done us both very well. Honestly.

The single best home audio purchase I have ever made. A lot of gear I've bought over the years was just an incremental improvement over the gear it was replacing. My SVS subwoofer on the other hand was literally a thunderclap! Not just loud, but clear and defined base. I spent the next month or so listening to audio tracks I knew well, but basically for the first time - low frequency sound that I had never heard before. And movies? My poor wife tries to sit upstairs and read when we’re watching a movie in the basement, and I just don’t know how she does it. Even at what I consider to be a moderate volume the bass is clearly audible on the 1st floor. And at reference levels (aka Man Night) you can easily hear it on the 2nd floor.

Anyway, obviously I love it. But a word of caution to apartment/condo dwellers, people with homes closer than 20ft from their neighbors, or those that have fussy wives. This thing is insidiously powerful. I can’t even imagine what SVS’s bigger subs sound like; who really needs more power than this?

This is incredible! Its really hard to describe in words what this sub does since you feel its power. It handles any movie you throw at it. The lightning scene in War of the Worlds gets my heart pumping every time. I also have this hooked up to my gaming pc...this sub paired with a Battlefield 3 32 vs 32 map is in one word Intense!

This thing is a beast! It shakes the foundation of my house. I love my subwoofer. It makes for a total experience whether watching movies or listening to music. Awesome product.

I bought the SVS PB-12 NSD after a couple of months of research and I am still amazed after watching dozens of movies with it.

I upgraded from a Klipsch sub 12 that just wasnt cutting it for movies, I was a little concerned with the fact that the SVS PB12-NSD only has a 400 watt amp. I have a a rather large room 17x22 and this sub does a trully amazing job!

The bass is digs down low, real low, unlike the Klipsch its quick and it reproduces different notes instead of just a monotone note. The steal grill is held firmly in place so my two young kids and my large dog are free to roam with out worry of damaging the driver.
