“The PB-1000 produces the kind of forceful, yet detailed bass that we would expect from more powerful and certainly more expensive subwoofers… If SVS's goal was to create a subwoofer that could deliver deep bass at a price that doesn't require deep pockets, then they have succeeded beyond all hope.”

Customer Reviews: PB-1000
umangvaswani (Saturday, 18 May 2013)Rating:
I don't usually write reviews , but this awesome sub that I just got a few weeks ago is just too amazing & I have to let people know that for $500 bucks you can not find a better, more powerful subwoofer than the PB-1000. I was debating between the Martin Logan dynamo 700 & the PB-1000, besides saving $$ I also made the perfect choice, there was no way the Martin Logan was going to fill my 300sq ft. room with deep, powerful bass.
Thanks to the SVS team.!!
Can't get over the quality sound that this subwoofer is giving, your company really has a great product and even better customer service.

I rarely write reviews, but my experience with SVS surely deserves comment. It is not common to find companies that offer great products let alone high quality customer service. I had several conversations and emails with Jack who graciously put up with my questions and concerns. I do not easily spend money, but was initially willing to buy a PB12-NSD. Jack convinced me that it may not fit in my cabinet, and more importantly a PB-1000 would probably fill my needs. He saved me over $200 dollars and was right on both counts. I am very pleased with the PB-1000. It performs well in a 3400 cubic foot theater room and produces very accurate, clean bass. SVS has earned the loyalty of this customer.

I’d been enamored with the PB12-NSD ever since reading the reviews. But I balked because of cost and form factor. It’s pretty darn big. Thus, I was thrilled to see the PB-1000. It was the right price, a smaller size and also had solid bass extension. I can only compare it with a 10-inch Infinity Primus subwoofer. This SVS is a bit deeper and a bit more musical. You can hear the distinct lower notes and sounds better than the 300-watt PS-12. For me, I listen mostly to music and I can say the stand-up bass in jazz sounds fab. So do kick drums, etc. For movies, there’s definitely more low-end extension coming from the LFE. All in all, I’m pretty satisfied with the purchase.
My setup, by the way, is Paradigm Mini Monitors. The subwoofer complements them quite well.

In my mind, customer service truly is the hallmark of a GREAT company – and these guys are the best! Jack was a tremendous resource while I was researching the best sub for my needs (ended up with the PB-1000). He taught me that the point of an accurate sub is not to boom constantly but to present what’s on the disk. Many lesser subs are designed with accentuated midbass that you always hear at the expense of real extension. Was he ever right! I have to admit, it took me awhile to adjust. I absolutely love the PB-1000. Bass was noticeably deeper, cleaner, intense, and effortless. The sound is so transparent you would never guess where it was coming from. If you are trying to visualize a subwoofer priced this low that needn't apologize for the quality of its bass, its low-end extension, or its flexible setup, this or any other SVS sub is the one for you.

Fully agree with all the previous sterling reviews, I was so impressed I bought a second one! Anyone thinking of dropping this kind of coin, would be well served to investigate the merits of acoustic room treatments, specifically bass traps. If you do not care about looks, you can make them with insulation and duct tape like I did. I have some real ones on order too, the difference my diy traps made were of sonic significance. I am hoping the pro grade ones will offer another incremental improvement. Selling acoustic bass traps would be a natural expansion for SVS, it would certainly add value to their product line up. Surprised in a good way, the cut-off dial actually had my favourite 80HZ cut-off printed on the dial dialer. All my other subs I just had to guess where 80Hz would be. As stated by another happy owner, my previous subs, yes plural, all three of them, sounded like toys. I have been unhappy with my woofings for several years, investigated in the past, but stopped my search when I realized that I would have to spend a $2,000, (never mind the shipping to get it to the Tundra of Edmonton, Canada) on one that may or may not be worthy, I am not a bass head, but as with all audio I require a certain amount of clarity, separation, and soundstage. PB-1000 provides this in spades. The no questions 45 day trail/return policy was the deciding factor. So glad I clicked on the banner ad on Canuck Audio Mart! No one complains about anything so I will. What is up with the C7 connector? Should be IEC style, most of us folks interested in this level of quality could be classified as audiofools(philes), we all have IEC power cords costing $700/foot cryogenically treated on the spacelab in order to maximize the sonic benefit of our clock radios (facetious). Also, how about some handles built into the shipping box, sure would make it easier to lug back from the shipping depot!

What can I say that others haven't already?
In this age and day when companies are trying their best to make you empty your wallets on them, one company stands above the rest, offering to help decide which product best suits your need. I was initially prepared to buy the PB12 NSD but after speaking to Dave, he convinced me that the PB1000 would suit my purpose fine! Now where did that come from?
I connected my sub today, and the first five minutes got me to laugh - I've been listening to toys all my life, now here's a REAL subwoofer! Deep , strong and clean lows; no port noise, no rattle, no hum, no NOTHIN; These guys KNOW subwoofers!
This thing has quality written all over it and it does not in any way perform like a $499 sub.
I've seen companies that hype their frequency response - my Definitive Supercube is rated at 13hz which I'd say is 100% pure lies; SVS rates this sub at 19 hz and they give you 19 hz, no jokes, no hype.
Customers are kept with quality products and service, and that's where SVS has the upper hand..

I put this sub with Magnepan MMGs and am happy with the result. MMGs need the help to go deep and the sub does well from folk/jazz to techno. The build/finish is better in person than the pictures online.
You will feel the bass if you turn it up. I could feel my jeans shake.
The only reason I give 4/5 stars is I haven't listened to any other comparable sub to use as a baseline. I do recommend this sub to anyone that is the market!

I spent hours of time researching the web for the best sub for under $600. I was about to go with a "box store brand" because I knew I couldn't afford the quality that SVS had to offer. It was by chance I decided to check the website one last time for a chance at a refurb sub. When I saw this Sub posted on the SVS website I almost instantly clicked the buy button. I knew about all the support and guarantees associated with SVS and knew I could not go wrong. I was using a JBL sub that I thought was pretty good. It got loud and rattled the house. When I swapped it out for the PB-1000, it was a night and day difference. THIS PB-1000 wont rattle the walls, it will rattle your soul! The pure quality of bass coming from this was ACCURATE, INTENSE, and PURE. I am sold on these subs! Congrats to the SVS team for putting your quality and name behind a truly remarkable sub for a price that is beyond fair.

I bought the PB-1000 on a recommendation from a co-worker who had an SVS sub. This sub has met and exceeded my exceptions. I have it mated with a pair of PSB Image B6s and a PSB Image C5. They sound great together. The only negative I have is that I live in apartment so I have to keep the volume turned down on the sub, but that isn't a fault of the product. There is no better sub for this price. Buy it, you won't regret it.

My review for my first experience with SVS and the PB-1000
Delivery:
I put my order in on Monday the 7th, It was shipped on the 8th, It was at my door on the 9th. Given I live in Michigan and its only maybe 5 hours to the SVS facility, I was still very impressed to have my subwoofer delivered only 2 days after ordering. To save the details it looked well handled, wasn’t damaged at all, and it even came with a note personalized to me.
Customer Service:
The SVS customer service was top notch for me. I emailed them a few times prior to purchase asking for their recommendations given my room size and speaker setup. I even asked if they would recommend the SB-12 (a more expensive model) over the PB-1000 for my situation, and they said I would probably be better off with the PB-12 given my needs. They didn’t try to up sell me at all, which shows me they really wanted me to be happy, not just spend money. Once the sub arrived I had a quick setup question, so I emailed them, less than 15 minutes later they responded, fully answering my question. I was very happy with how I was treated and I feel if I have any further questions about their products I can get reliable, honest information from them.
Performance:
Now for what everyone want to know. How does it sound? First let me start by saying this, I am a novice home theater guy, and this is by far the most expensive piece to my setup (I’ll list my room and speaker specs at the end of the post). To give you an idea, the sub I upgraded from was a Mirage LF100. So given that I’ve never heard anything in its price range or higher, I will attempt to describe my experience with it.
Right away I ran audyssey with the sub volume at 12 o’clock as recommend. I played a few songs and the difference was clear. This sub was already putting out more than my previous sub ever had, even at lower volumes. I could hear new lows that I never got with the LF100 (albeit that isn’t saying much haha). I will say that after this very quick and rushed setup I felt a little underwhelmed, as I had very high expectations for this sub. I wasn’t concerned though as I felt once I rearranged a few things and played around with some of the settings it would sound much better.
So after a bit of tuning and also turning the volume dial to about 2 o’clock I played the same songs again. And let me just say the difference was incredible. The whole room was filled with deep rich bass. I couch feel the couch shake. It was very impressive. I will say though, I hear pf many people asking about “could ya feel it hit you in the chest?” and my answer is no not really. I wouldn’t describe the bass that comes out as boomy where you literally get hit by a pressure wave. Now as I said the couch did rumble and a few things hanging on the wall felt it too. It was definitely loud, crisp, clean, and deep, which was exactly what I was looking for.
Now this is where I was most impressed. This sub really shines when watching movies. The other night I watched “how to train your dragon” with my girlfriend, and man was the bass great! The dragon’s wings flapping felt like they were right next to me. On top of that I watched Transformers to test how it handled explosions, and it performed great! I never noticed any unwanted/distorted noise, even at loud volumes. So with the addition of this sub, my movie watching experience dramatically improved even more so than my music listening (although for music I primarily listen to rock type music so there isn’t as many super low bass moments).
Overall: (5 stars out of 5)
My experience with this sub has been very satisfying, and I feel it was worth every penny spent. I also know that with SVS’s great customer care I can upgrade to the PB-12 next year and get full money of my PB-1000 put towards it with their 1 year trade up policy (which I plan on utilizing). In short I would say this sub performs best for movies, but still very very good for music (the few Bass Mekanik songs I did listen to were very impressive). I think SVS may have made a long time customer out of me, as I’m positive that now that I’ve experienced “real” bass, I will be on the never ended quest to get the “best” bass. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is thinking about exploring higher end subs, I think this product will give you a great idea of what you can expect and definitely won’t leave you disappointed if you are upgrading from a budget system like myself.

I have had the pb-1000 for about a month now. Loud is going to be subjective between setups, placement/enviroment, and settings. I have it running on a denon 3808ci (notorious for bad bass output). I am in a apartment setting. While the total db output of the sub doesnt blow me away, everytime it hits low it makes me grin like a little boy! Even though sealed is recommended for music this sub pleases for movies and music. I have been a bb sub owner previously to this sub. It is not the loudest sub ive owned but definately the tightest and deepest hitting. volume is not everything... for svs' buget sub i would never go back... only forward.

This sub plays loud and deep but with astonishing detail and clarity. You will hear detail in movies that other subs just muddle through.
Also, it is surprisingly musical for a ported sub, producing tight bass, again with extraordinary detail and clarity. The FR curve says it all!
A top notch performer for music or movies. Furthermore, SVS customer support is nothing short of exemplary. You get sound advice all the way from product selection to setup.

First I want to thank the SVS Tech Support Team for helping me to properly set-up and pair the PB1000 with the existing subwoofer in my home theatre system. The addition of the PB1000 has clarified and increased the sound of the LFE frequencies and the overall sound from the front, center and surround speakers. PB1000 has made a tremendous improvement in sound of my home theatre system from all sources.

I was originally debating between the HSU VTF3-MK4 and the SVS PB12-NSD, but unfortunately size constraints were a limiting factor, so I was looking elsewhere after returning my B&W ASW12 CM. I decided to call around to a few vendors. My call with SVS was not rushed. They took the time to evaluate the needs for my room (we discussed the size, potential placement, my current speaker setup and my listening habits), and they recommended a sub (which was actually lower priced than the SVS sub I was initially going to buy).
Rarely does this happen in this day and age as most businesses try to upsell customers no matter the customer's specific needs. SVS recommended the PB-1000 and said that instead of buying two PB-1000s on the spot, I could try one and see how it works and order the second one if necessary and still get the combo pricing.
Needless to say, I'm more than satisfied with my purchase. The single PB-1000 is more than enough for my room as SVS suggested. Nonetheless, I've decided to go ahead and pickup another one as I would like to run a 5.2 or 7.2 setup.
The lows on this sub compared to a $1000+ sub are quite astounding. After receiving the sub, I decided to upgrade my speakers as well because the clarity of the low frequency was just that good. I wasn't disappointed as the sub is also a great match with my new Gallo Acoustics speakers.
I would definitely recommend this sub for those who don't want a box that's too big, but still want that low frequency sound. The output on the PB-1000 is fantastic.

I came to learn about SVS on AVSForum. I was told that I should call up and talk to the fine people at SVS. I spoke to Ed for probably at least a half an hour. He was very knowledgeable and very helpful. He was also very knowledgeable of the competition and after some discussion; he decided that the PB1000 would be best for my application. I was originally just inquiring but the customer service alone sold me on the product!!!
Once this bad boy arrived, I was blown away with how it sounded! So much cleaner than my old KEF subwoofer and obliterates my Boston Acoustics, I have in another room. This baby gets LOW!!!

We built a new home and moved from our previous house which had a dedicated home theater room in the basement. I had two of a main stream companies 10" 400watt subs. Even though there was two I was never excited about there low end capabilities (super low frequency reproduction in movies), the overall sound was muddy, and even though they were located near each other and result in a significant gain in output they still never played as loud as I wanted. I wanted to get a single PB13 ultra when I was designing the system but got a fantastic deal on these two at a much lower cost so I thought it would be the way to go and come close to an SVS result. I could not be more wrong on that last statement based on my experience with the PB-1000.
For our new house I just wanted something that was fairly low cost and I absolutely didn't want to make the same mistake as before. The sub was going to be in our great room and my main goal was to simply compliment the bookshelfs and center channel in a 3.1 set up. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a set up that eventually wont get a ton of use once the new home theater is built. The purpose of this system will be mainly for casual daily TV watching.
I talked with the great people at SVS to kick around my options. Since my goal wasn't anything earth shattering I was going to go with the smallest sealed sub but after talking with SVS they didn't recommend that for my very very challenging room environment. My house is very open concept, the great room is not super huge at 18x20 BUT it has 17' ceilings and since it is open concept it shares space with the kitchen (9' ceilings), the hallway (very large and also 17' ceilings) and the formal dinning room. That is a lot of volume to fill! So knowing what my expectations were, which wasn't much more than good fill, they said I could get by with PB-12NSD and be happy for what I was trying to acheive. So I was set to order that sub, however I just couldn't get out of my mind wanting to try the brand new PB-1000. With the no risk trial period and trade up policies that SVS has I had nothing to lose by trying the PB-1000.
This sub is excellent, it exceeded my expectations on what it could do in this environment. Even though its only a 10" with modest power and not a really large cabinet the sub plays very low and has the output that I wanted to achieve. I was speachless with the quality of the sound and the output while watching The Dark Night Rises, it was fantastic. That movie has a really aggressive sub channel track and at no point did the PB-1000 let me down while watching it.
I love trying new products and I might indeed take advantage of SVS's trade up policy and go with what they originally recommended, but if I do it would only be to ease my curiosity on the difference between the two.
I can not wait to have my theater room completed and get a PB13-ultra in it or maybe two of the new sealed ultras. I am looking forward to discussing my options with SVS soon on that room and finally put together a new theater room that puts any commercial movie theater to shame!

Love the sound. It replaced my old Cambridge Soundworks PSB 12" monolith sealed sub. Amp died, and I don't think I can remove/replace it. That one sounded great, but bass dropped off at some point which was higher than this one - I heard rumbling that the CSW sub never produced. I am loving this new sub. Room is 11x22 with cathedral ceilings, so not the best environment.

Very happy with the PB-1000. My sub is in a 22x20 room with 11 foot ceilings and still manages to fill the room with incredibly low and hard hitting bass tones. Sounds wonderful with movies and music. Love this sub!

PB-1000 rocks....
Almost after a month research I prefer to go with SVS sub and was attracted by this new model. Basically, I was looking for a sub that would complement Bowers and Wilkins tower and surround speakers in my new home theater. My friend recommended going with this and I do not regret for buying this great sub. Wow... when my technician fired for the first time, everyone's attention was on the sub. Yes, it really rocks.
I'm not a techi guy but still can understand the difference in the sounds. There is huge difference hearing out of B&W and Definitive subs. This sub complements to my B&W speakers in my new ‘home theater’. It can be used in both ways for soft and hard ‘bhoom bhoom’ sound according to our taste. Overall I’m extremely happy with PB-1000. Thanks to SVS.
