Tech Specs

Cable Construction Materials:

  • Tri-balanced high gauge 99.99% oxygen-free-copper conductors individually isolated in independent HDPE dielectric jackets for consistent flow, high purity, and minimal signal loss
  • 1.6mm HDPE inside core dielectric – the first of the five-layer insulation system shields twisted trio of dedicated conductors
  • Aluminum wrap shield – the second layer in the shielding and insulation system
  • 56-strand spiral braid of 99.99% OFC tinned copper soldered to chassis ground terminal forms critical third barrier in the five-layer insulation system to remove EMI and RF noise between electronics
  • High density PVC jacket wrapped in densely braided cotton jacket provides flexibility, easy gripping, and forms the final two layers in the five-layer insulation system
  • Five-layer isolation system rejects electromagnetic interference (EMI)

XLR Connector Construction Materials:

  • Precision-soldered with high grade lead-free solder to ensure durable and constant electrical contacts with consistent signal flow
  • 24K gold-plated brass conductor pin for stable electrical contact and signal flow
  • Solid zinc-alloy terminal with black nickel-plating provides stylish and durable body with comfortable handling
  • Red and white marking bands for easy left and right channel designation
  • Shield layer is hand-soldered to source terminal chassis connection for best possible grounding and noise rejection

ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES:

  • Conductor DCR = 77 mΩ/meter
  • Shield DCR: 40 mΩ/meter
  • Nominal Impedance: 110Ω. Cable and XLR connectors are impedance-matched to minimize Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) and Return Loss.
  • Nominal Capacitance: 39 pF/meter @ 1kHz
  • Rated Bandwidth: DC-5.0 MHz (3M cable) with ≤1.09 VSWR and ≥27dB Return Loss.

    XLR as it should be

I purchased 3 of these previously for my FL, C, FR and recently upgraded my amp which I now can have all home theater speakers using XLR. Quite literally no noise and the punch is so nice. Very good quality product.

    SVS Balanced XLR Audio Cables

I just recently received a pair of SVS XLR audio cables that I ordered a few days ago. I received that much faster than I thought I would and they appear to be very high-quality cables. I’ve made several purchases from SVS over the years and have never been disappointed! I highly recommend their products and will certainly be ordering again from them in the future as needed.

    Great Value XLR

I measured these against much more expensive XLR, and honestly they compared very favorably! For the price, impossible to beat.

Frequently Asked Questions

XLR vs RCA cables – What’s the difference?

XLR cables use a balanced connection that helps reject noise and interference, especially over longer runs and are especially preferred for pro audio applications. RCA cables use an unbalanced signal and are generally less expensive and more common on consumer electronics. While they are more susceptible to interference in certain environments, proper shielding makes this a non-issue. For a deeper dive into the benefits of each, check out this article, XLR vs. RCA – What are the best cables for subwoofers & Hi-Fi?

Do balanced XLR cables improve sound quality?

Balanced XLR cables can improve signal integrity by reducing unwanted noise and interference. In systems with balanced connections, this may result in cleaner, quieter audio performance. Particularly in longer cable runs or electrically noisy environments.

Can I use XLR cables with an AV receiver?

Yes. If the receiver or processor includes balanced XLR inputs or outputs. Many higher-end AV processors, preamps, amplifiers, and powered speakers support XLR connections for improved system integration.

Why do high-end audio systems use balanced XLR connections?

Balanced XLR connections are commonly used in premium audio systems because they provide secure connections, strong signal stability, and resistance to electrical interference, helping maintain consistent performance across connected components.
