Ultra Tower - Piano Outlet - 1058

I purchased these two towers on sale and the center speaker at the same time. I couldn't be more pleased. The sound is outstanding no matter the type of music played. I like all kinds of music from Metal to Orchestral and everything sounds amazing. I have all the speakers set to "small" on my receiver and I let the two subwoofers that I bought from SVS years ago take care of all the bass. The only caveat is the size of the center speaker. Make sure you have a rack that can fit a center speaker that is almost 9 inches tall. I had to buy a new rack.

Lost my Thiel CS2.3 venerable towers to an unrepairable driver and a few other issues. At 58, my priorities are quite different, but I still wanted to buy a set of speakers that would rival the Thiels which, even in 1998, cost $3700 per pair. After a ton of research, I decided on the SVS Ultra over the Klipsh and Polk flagships. Just too many expert reviews and others who were so elated with the SVS Ultras. My expectations weren't particularly high and decided that if they sounded 75 percent as great as my Thiels, I'd be happy enough. I've not even tuned them into the room yet, and without a doubt, I can say these outperform my Thiel CS2.3 . Thiels brought a lot of listening fatigue after an hour or so of listening, whereas the SVS Ultras are just a hint on the warm side of neutral and I think that makes all the difference. They are also a much livelier speaker than my Thiels. And the separation between (not spacial, but musically) the sounds and instruments is just incredible on the SVS Ultras. And I've not had a speaker that handles silence better. So much air between notes. Percussive instruments really shine here. The attack and decay on a snare drum or cymbal is superior to the Thiels. And low end? Not even close. The SVS blow the Theils away in that regard. Not taking anything away from the Theils - fantastic, accurate, clear, and exceptionally well-built speakers. Maybe the 25 years took their toll on the capacitors / cross over and driver seals. But I couldn't be…
