SB16-Ultra - Piano Gloss - Outlet - 6147

I first purchased the SB16-Ultra about 2 years ago and was blown away by not only the sound, but the fit and finish, customer service, packaging, and delivery were all excellent. SVS really is a top-notch company. I initially was eyeing the PB16 but ultimately chose the SB, mainly for it's smaller size. I've been so happy with the performance, I decided to get a second one. When I went back to check the SVS store, I saw that the SB16 had been replaced by the SB17-Ultra. I panicked for a minute then found that the outlet had them for sale, fully inspected, reduced, and backed by warrantee, all in the original package! It took me a couple days to get the 2 subs to play nicely together but now that they do, I'm really enjoying the dual sub system!

For the last 25 years, I was spoiled by my Velodyne HGS-15 servo-controlled sub. The thing was masterfully designed and constructed, solid as a rock and powerful enough to rattle glasses off the shelf in the kitchen. There was nothing it couldn't do - until it died. And then reality set in: Velodyne was no more, and I was going to have to find a replacement. I had no idea where to turn, until an SVS ad showed up magically on one of my feeds. Clearly, Big Brother was listening. But this time it was OK, because he came through with my salvation: the SVS SB16-Ultra. Oh my God, did he.

To be clear, I did not need a woofer. My mains are antique but still awesome B&W 801s, with 12" woofers in ported, scientifically-designed Matrix cabinets that are flat within 3db to 20Hz. Actually, in the time since the Velodyne died, I had begun to think that maybe I didn't need a sub after all. But when SVS caught my eye, it was almost like Velodyne had been reincarnated. No more servo control, but super massive cabinets, magnets, and frames, huge voice coils, mega amplification - and gloss black cabinetry to boot. Life is short and I needed to know, so I sprang for one.

On time, it arrived - in an 18-wheeler on my street. The driver unloaded it on a PALLET and wheeled it on a hand fork to my front porch. The box was so big it was intimidating; what had I gotten myself into? But from the minute I started opening the box - which even had specific instructions on the outside about how to open it …

i have a very large open floor plan basement that am dealing with. started out out with a sb 4000 that worked ok, but was lacking on some soundtrack, so i traded up to the sb 16 ultra and it made a helluva difference. can listen to music with volume down and hear the bass well. of course crank it up and my neighbors can hear it well! still learning about all the app functions ( which is neater than hell) and when i get a better grip on that stuff will call in and talk to one of the techs to line me out. all in all , even with a very large room , it does the job well and EVERYBODY i have dealt with at SVS has been super. cannot say enough good about the company and employees. maybe next year get the prime wireless pro speakers to slick up my setup!
