    Outstanding Subwoofers!

I am in the process of upgrading my theater room to also be a dedicated 2-channel listening room. I have been taking room response measurements with my SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle front speakers, center channel, and two SB17 subwoofers for about two weeks now. I am driving this all with an 8-yr old SONY A/V receiver until I purchase new Anthem STR preamp and amp separates to complete the upgrade. All I can say so far is that I absolutely love the SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle line and your subwoofers.

Keep in mind that managing room acoustics is half the battle. I downloaded the free copy of REW measurement software (please donate to these guys - this is awesome) and got a good USB calibrated mic. With a little practice and following some theoretical guiding principles, I took tons of measurements to prove I found very good placements for speakers and subwoofers, and I adjusted what I could (speaker levels, sizes, crossovers, distances, etc) with my old SONY A/V, and I have already reached nirvana! Thankfully, your subs have plenty adjustments on their own, and this really helped my initial setup.

I don't even have independent subwoofer outputs yet (I will when I get the Anthem STR preamp), but after adjusting what I could, this system already sounds incredible. I was amazed at the improvement! Lower bass sounds are very full but not boomy in any way. Kick drums and other percussion sounds are crisp and in your face, as well as bass guitar notes. The vocals and…

    Huge Upgrade

This Sub replaced a 26 year-old B&W ASW4000 , which in its day was a great performing Sub. All I can say is that Subs have come a long way in that time! This SVS Sub is a huge improvement in every aspect - I really appreciate the combination of power and control, which is awesome for music and movies. Great value too!

    SVS SB 17 Ultra

One month with the SVS SB-17 Ultra R|evolution and my home theater has been transformed. That 17-inch driver is a monster. Phenomenal deep bass, huge amplitude, and it stays clean even when you push it to reference level. If you want earth-shaking bass for movies like Interstellar and Tron: Legacy, Deadpool and Wolverine (and killer musicality), this is it. Absolute winner from SVS.

Clean tight bass at any volume

I bought two SB17 Ultras and they are amazing! Even right out of the box with the factory settings they play extremely well. I'm impressed with the new DSP. These subs do a fantastic job preventing you from pushing them beyond their limits. And believe me those limits are extremely high. I played some music tracks geared towards bass testing and it shook the entire house. Also played actual music across different genres and the listening experience was quite enjoyable. I backed the volume down to -10db to not drown out the vocals and other frequencies from my main speakers. Depending on how bass heavy the tracks are I'd say anywhere from -8 to -12 db is probably the sweet spot. For movies (still with a flat eq) it was a night and day change. I have the Polk R700s which have some decent bass for front tower speakers but there's a whole low end of the spectrum I was still missing. Blade Runner 2049 was extremely bass heavy right from the start. Had to dial it down to -15db to keep my house shaking. After that I decided to get the Dirac Bass Control license and recalibrate. I was already using Dirac so it made sense for me. Post calibration it really dialed the subs in nicely and turned the flutter of bass into a more tightly controlled purposeful punch at the right moments. Oh I should probably mention I have an open concept floor plan with 10ft ceilings so while the R5000 was enticing I spoke with the SVS customer service and they recommended I go with the SB17 Ultras to…
