Questions And Answers:

Tell us a little about SoundCredits and what type of work you do?

SoundCredits is a film post-production sound company focused on cinematic sound design and mixing for film, commercials, and branded content. Additionally, we create Dolby Atmos music mixes for various artists on Apple Music. Our work typically centers on building immersive experiences that elevate story, whether through detailed sound design, powerful low-frequency energy, or creating a sense of space that pulls the audience deeper into the frame.

How did you first hear about SVS?

I first heard about SVS about a decade ago. Even before the start of SoundCredits, SVS pushed me deeper into film sound just from the experiences I’ve felt from hearing their products. It was through YouTube and local audio stores that I’ve been able to tune into the evolution of SVS also.

Why is it important to have a reference playback system when mixing and mastering sound?

A reference system is everything. It’s the foundation that every creative decision is built on. If what I’m hearing isn’t accurate, every choice becomes a potential source of issues. This is important because it allows me to accurately shape tone, dynamics, and space confidently, knowing that what I’m mixing will carry through the many other stages of production sound, then finally to the theatrical or home mix.

What sonic qualities do speakers need to have to be suitable for pro audio?

Detail, accuracy, and build quality. I think a well-designed speaker is judged not just by appearance but also by how effectively it handles common flaws that compromise performance. I find that issues with many speakers typically sit within the 300-500Hz cavity. The cabinet design is just as critical and should disappear, not ring, or resonate. In a studio environment, this is important because if I’m hearing nasty frequencies caused by the speaker itself, rather than the content being mixed, that can impact my decision-making.

How is the SVS system different than what you were using previously?

Coming from traditional studio monitors, the transition to the SVS Ultra Evolution series was seamless. What stood out to me was the depth and dimensionality in the sound stage, especially coming from the Ultra Evolution Bookshelf speakers. The level of detail, especially within its treble, sounds sharp and smooth, but not ear-fatiguing at all. Achieving this level of performance, especially for the price, is seriously very impressive!

Why did you choose SVS for your studio?

I chose SVS because it felt like the best hybrid for both music and film, as I work in an environment that focuses on both. Working within Dolby Atmos, I can accurately hear where I place objects around the room, and they translate perfectly across many playback systems. Also, SVS having a huge catalog of models gives me and others a ton of flexibility to pick the perfect speaker for a given application; another huge plus! They sound great and check off the list of requirements I need to finish a professional mix accurately.

Anything you can share about your work that might surprise people?

What surprises people is how much collaboration goes into the production sound process. It’s not just me alone in the studio, there’s a whole network of directors, editors, and other sound professionals putting the pieces of a project together. There’s always a talented team behind every project!

What are some projects that you are most proud of?

Documentary work stands out the most. It's those projects that require a balance between authenticity and emotional storytelling. You’re shaping real-world sound into one’s life being told on screen. Such a fun challenge! Working with director Danny Gevirtz was one of my most memorable experiences.

Any upcoming projects you’d like to promote?

There are several upcoming projects across both commercial and narrative spaces that I’m excited about. Our next film is "Echoes of Belize" from director Vaughn Jelks. I’m stocked to develop a personality for that film through sound, and SVS will be the driving force in helping me create that immersive experience for others. The focus for us moving forward is continuing to push deeper into cinematic storytelling, with an emphasis on immersive, detail-driven sound design.

Anything else you’d like to share with the SVS community?

If you’re part of the SVS community, you already understand the impact great sound can have. Systems like this don’t just play audio; they reveal imperfections in the content being played. And I feel that once you hear that level of detail and depth, there’s no going back.
