Local Movie Theater Put to Shame by Mississippi Surround Sound System

Kyle from Madison, MS

Kyle from Mississippi has been on a journey to build a family-friendly home theater that would best what the local movie theater had to offer and put his friends and loved ones right in the middle of the action. It had to be easy to operate with convincing surround sound and clean bass he could feel.

The seasoned audio enthusiast has just about achieved audio nirvana (there’s always potential for upgrades!) after building a user friendly 5.2.4 SVS speaker and subwoofer surround sound system that delivers on every level.

It’s been a long road since Kyle started with his Boombox/TV/VCR combo, but now, “I’m hearing details in movies and music that I have NEVER heard before. It is something special when you get your sound dialed in just right and are completely immersed.

Questions And Answers:

Why/When did you first start getting into high-performance audio?

I was around 10-11 years old when I my first 13” TV / VCR combo and hooked it up to a stereo boom box. It was a Phillips Magnavox system with two speakers and a 6inch subwoofer. I thought I was in heaven.

Why is having an immersive home theater important to you?

Immersive audio adds so much depth and enriches your experience whether it is music or movies. Height channels and subwoofers have been game changers for my setup. Nowadays I enjoy watching movies at home more so than going to the movie theaters. It’s something special when you get your sound dialed in just right and are completely immersed.

How did you first hear about SVS?

I initially came across SVS through online forums and recommendations. I knew I was hooked whenever I could actually call a company and speak with down-to-earth people who know and LOVE their products. I started with a single PB-1000 Subwoofer. The quality of the product for the money I spent just blew me away.

What impact did upgrading to SVS have vs what you had previously?

My upgrades along the way to SVS have just made the most improvements. I have tried other components and brands along the way. However, all of the SVS speakers and subwoofers I slowly upgraded to have always added so much clarity and depth to my system. I’m hearing details in movies and music that I have NEVER heard before, and I never thought were possible or attainable at prices I could afford.

What was the greatest challenge when setting up your home theater?

Probably making sure it is all kid proof still. Ha! My greatest challenge has always been to make sure everything is functional and enjoyable for the entire family. I have always wanted a system that my wife, kids or guests can use and enjoy easily.

Why are high-performance subwoofers/great bass important to the experience?

Bass gets so misunderstood by a lot of people because most people only think about the big BOOM subwoofers can add. However, the reason I love SVS is because even though their subs can throw a punch they are SO smooth and clear. Having great bass just really completes the full range of sound you should be hearing from your movies and music.

Any favorite demos you’d like to suggest?

I think a lot of my favorites have already been mentioned by you all (e.g. Ready Player One, Dolby Atmos Demo Discs, Top Gun: Maverick). However, I think an oddly specific one might be from the movie, Baby Driver. There is a scene early on in the movie where they are driving their getaway car down an alleyway and a utility truck pulls out in front. The driver has to pull the emergency brake and maneuver around the truck. The bass is so smooth and distinct in this scene, and I just love it! You really feel like you were in the car with them. I am also a sucker for Pink Floyd SACD disc.

Anything else you’d like to share with the SVS community?

If you ever get a chance to go to an SVS event in your area or nearby, you should go! It is a lot of fun to get to meet staff and also, other fans who love SVS just as much as you do. Everyone has a unique story about their journey, and we are all at some point in this journey to audio nirvana. Ha!

I think the staff, fans and owners are what make SVS so awesome. Everyone is so down to earth and humble. I really appreciate how they offer HIGH QUALITY products regardless of how you spend initially. You really go get a lot of bang for your buck.
